AER-271 is a molecule that has been shown to be effective in treating the symptoms of type 1 diabetes mellitus. It is a small water-soluble molecule that has been shown to induce insulin secretion, increase glucose uptake into cells, and inhibit gluconeogenesis. AER-271 has also been shown to have cardioprotective properties and has been found to reduce the rate of death following a heart attack. AER-271 is being studied in clinical trials for use in pediatric patients with type 1 diabetes mellitus.
