Dicyclopentanyl methacrylate is a monomer with an optical constant of 1.5, which is used in the production of polymers and other materials. This chemical can be synthesized by reacting dicyclopentanyl with methacryloyl chloride in the presence of a catalyst. Dicyclopentanyl methacrylate is one of the most important monomers because it can be used as a polymerization initiator, which initiates polymerization by breaking the ester bond in dicyclopentyl-methacrylate. It also has a hydroxyl group that allows it to be hydrogenated and thus form particles with diameters less than 100 nm. The chlorine atom on the molecule makes it useful for electron-beam lithography, while the metal chelate makes it useful in radiation protection.
