3,4,5-Trichlorophenol acetate is an antibiotic with a broad spectrum of activity against microorganisms. It has been shown to be active against many strains of bacteria and fungi. 3,4,5-Trichlorophenol acetate is not active against viruses or parasites. This antibiotic can be used in chemotherapy and as a medicine for treating various bacterial infections. 3,4,5-Trichlorophenol acetate is also used as a disinfectant and preservative in cosmetics such as soaps and shampoos. It can be synthesized from the natural compound chlorophyllin by reacting it with chlorine gas in the presence of acid. The synthesis process does not produce any toxic byproducts.
