Ethyl N-[(benzyloxy)methanethioyl]carbamate is a hydrogen bond donor that forms hydrogen bonds with the carbonyl groups of other molecules, such as benzyl. It has a dihedral angle that is positioned to form a dimer or trimer and can be observed in the crystal structure. This substance can be found in many natural products, including carboxypeptidase A from bovine pancreas and aminopeptidase P from human erythrocytes. Ethyl N-[(benzyloxy)methanethioyl]carbamate is also a carbamate, which is used to protect an amine group in organic chemistry by forming a stable ester linkage with the carbonyl group of an acid. This type of compound binds to DNA and inhibits bacterial growth by inhibiting protein synthesis.
