Asparanin B is a saponin that has been shown to have anti-inflammatory properties in animal models of inflammatory diseases. Asparanin B is also an important bioactive phytochemical found in medicinal plants such as the roots of asparagus. In tissue culture, this compound has been shown to inhibit the proliferation of cells by interfering with their growth cycle and by inhibiting their ability to produce proteins. This molecule may be helpful in the treatment of autoimmune diseases such as inflammatory bowel disease.
