2,4-Dibromobenzene-1,3,5-triol is a polyvalent bromophenol that has potent antiproliferative activity against cancer cells. The compound was found to inhibit the proliferation of MCF-7 cells by binding to amine sites on the cell surface and inhibiting protein synthesis. 2,4-Dibromobenzene-1,3,5-triol can be classified as a natural product because it is derived from naturally occurring phenols. This compound has been shown to be cytotoxic in vitro assays using mcf-7 cells. The potency of this compound was found to be dependent on the number of bromines present in the molecule.
