It has been shown to have an anticoagulant effect in animals, which is most likely due to its ability to inhibit the enzyme serine protease. In vitro studies show that this compound inhibits oxygen transport and causes cellular damage in eye tissue, which may be due to its ability to cross the blood-brain barrier. This compound also induces an acute ischemic event in rats, which was found to be mediated by inhibition of p450 activity and the subsequent reduction of oxygen transport.
