It has modulator effects on nociceptors and in the central nervous system, which may be due to its ability to inhibit the release of excitatory neurotransmitters. 4-Bromo-2-(2-chloro-6-fluorophenyl)-3H-imidazo[4,5-c]pyridine also inhibits the production of nociceptive substances by binding to opioid receptors in the brain. This compound also has been shown to have antiinflammatory properties, which are mediated by inhibition of prostaglandin synthesis.
