3,4-Dimethoxypyridine is a chiral molecule that can be used as a cross-coupling partner in the synthesis of other molecules. It has been used in the preparation of pantoprazole and orelline. 3,4-Dimethoxypyridine binds to chloride ions and is also metabolized by CYP2D6. Maltol, which is an aromatic compound found in hops, can also be synthesized from this molecule. Research on 3,4-dimethoxypyridine has shown that it can be metabolized by glutathione S-transferase enzymes to produce reactive oxygen species.
