2-Ethylthiobenzimidazole is a drug that is used to treat metabolic disorders such as brain functions and bowel diseases. It has antioxidative properties, which may be due to its ability to scavenge reactive oxygen species. 2-Ethylthiobenzimidazole has been shown to have a protective effect on the heart in animal models of congestive heart failure by reducing oxidative stress and improving cardiac function. This drug also exhibits chemiluminescent properties in the presence of hydrogen peroxide and luminol, which could be used for control analysis in pharmacological agents.
