The antibody can be used as a research tool for studying the function of this receptor and its subunits in vivo. UCSF924NC has been shown to bind to the extracellular domain of alpha-7 nicotinic acetylcholine receptors in rat brain tissue, which may indicate that it is an inhibitor of these receptors. UCSF924NC also has been shown to inhibit calcium influx through ion channels in CHO cells transfected with alpha-7 nAChRs, indicating that it is a ligand for these receptors.
