This chemical has been shown to react with hydrogen peroxide to form phenacyl bromide, which can be used to synthesize carbonyl compounds. 1-(2-Bromophenyl)-2-methylpropan-1-one also reacts with hydrogensulfate in the presence of solvents such as isopropyl alcohol or acetone to produce carbonyls. 1-(2-Bromophenyl)-2-methylpropan-1-one can also be used as an intermediate in organic synthesis reactions that require acidic conditions, such as a dehydration process or a hydrogenation process.
