tert-Butyl hydrogen dodecanedioate is a fatty acid that has been synthesized using trifluoroacetic acid as the starting material. The tert-butyl group is attached to the C12 carbon in the dodecane molecule. This compound is an inorganic acid and a hydrophobic compound. It has been shown to be chemically stable at elevated temperatures, and it can inhibit the formation of malonic acid when heated with ethylene diamine. Tert-Butyl hydrogen dodecanedioate has also been shown to be effective in detergent compositions and model system studies. In these studies, it was found that this compound had an inhibitory dose of about 10 mM for ethylene diamine decomposition and about 1 mM for dodecanedioic acid decomposition. Tert-Butyl hydrogen dodecanedioate also inhibits the reaction between hydrochloric acid and ethylene diamine, which produces dodecanedioic acid.
