• Descripción: 1-Palmitoyl-3-oleoyl-sn-glycero-2-phosphoethanolamine (POP) is an antimicrobial agent that interacts with the phospholipid bilayer of bacteria. POP spontaneously forms a phospholipid bilayer when it is mixed with water and the reaction is allowed to proceed for 24 hours. It has been shown to adsorb onto bacterial cells and inhibit their growth, which may be due to its ability to form a biomimetic, spontaneous phospholipid bilayer. The antimicrobial activity of POP has been shown in simulations that use hydrophobic POP molecules that interact with the hydrophobic region of the bacterial membrane.
