Dryopteris lobata, also known as Lobata, is a species of fern that belongs to the order Polypodiales and the family Dryopteridaceae. It has phosphatase activity and has been shown to inhibit ptp1b in vitro. PTP1B is an enzyme that regulates insulin sensitivity by dephosphorylating the insulin receptor substrate (IRS). Dryopteris lobata contains 3-(3,5-dibromo-4-hydroxybenzoyl)-2-ethyl-N-(4-sulfamoylphenyl)benzofuran-6-sulfonamide (DBL), which is a potent inhibitor of PTP1B. DBL inhibits the phosphorylation of IRS, and decreases the level of insulin resistance in cells.
