Demethyl calyciphylline A is an alkaloid isolated from the daphniphyllum fruit. It has been shown to have a broad spectrum of pharmacological activity, including anti-inflammatory, antidiabetic, and antioxidant properties. Demethyl calyciphylline A has also been shown to inhibit the activity of protein kinases and to stimulate the production of a number of cytokines, including interleukin-1β, tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α), and interferon-γ. Demethyl calyciphylline A has been studied in vivo as a potential treatment for diabetes mellitus type 2.
Demethyl calyciphylline A is synthesized by demethylation of calyciphylline B which is found in wheat leaves.
