It has been shown to inhibit glycogen synthase activity and to have the potential to inhibit protein synthesis. The molecule's structure overlaps with that of methoxy and fluorine, which are molecules that are known for their ability to transport substances across cell membranes. 3-(5-Fluoro-3-benzofuranyl)-4-(5-methyl-5H-1,3,-dioxolo[4,5]indol 7 yl)-1H pyrrole 2, 5 dione is also a serine/threonine protein kinase inhibitor and is thought to temporarily block NFkappaB activation
