Descripción:4-Phenylbut-3-yn-1-ol is a chiral molecule with two stereogenic centers. It is an intermediate in the synthesis of indenes, which are used as pharmaceuticals and pesticides. 4-Phenylbut-3-yn-1-ol can be prepared by reacting diethyl etherate with acetaldehyde and malonate, or by reacting methylethylketone with ethylene oxide and carbon monoxide. The molecule has intramolecular hydrogen bonding due to the electron withdrawing effect of the carbonyl group on the adjacent phenyl ring. This allows for conformation changes that lead to catalytic activity.
