Phenyl anthranilate is an organic compound with the chemical formula C9H6O2. It is a white solid that is soluble in most organic solvents. The synthesis of phenyl anthranilate involves the oxidation of benzene by sodium hydroxide in the presence of chloride ions and metal surfaces, followed by the reduction of the resulting hydroxybenzaldehyde with hydrazine and subsequent decarboxylation of the monocarboxylic acid product.
