Descripción:3-Methyl-4-phenyl-1,2,5-oxadiazole is a nitrophenyl derivative that has been shown to have antimicrobial activity. It was used in antimicrobial screening and found to inhibit the growth of various bacteria. 3-Methyl-4-phenyl-1,2,5-oxadiazole inhibits bacterial growth by inhibiting the production of furoxan (a product of bacterial metabolism) through an unknown mechanism. Furoxan is a potent inhibitor of respiratory electron transport and prevents oxidative phosphorylation. 3-Methyl-4-phenyl 1,2,5 oxadiazole also inhibits the synthesis of cellular proteins and nucleic acids.
