Praseodymium(III) chloride is a water-soluble metal ion that has a high affinity for the extractant polyvinyl chloride. This salt can be used in various analytical methods, such as uv absorption and luminescence. Praseodymium(III) chloride is also used to prepare ternary complexes with organic compounds. The reaction yield of this complex is very high, making it an efficient method for synthesizing asymmetric compounds. Praseodymium(III) chloride has been used in microscopy studies and has been shown to bind to polyvinyl chloride at temperatures between 5°C and 35°C.
