7-Prenyloxycoumarin is a chemotherapeutic agent that has been shown to induce apoptosis in cancer cells. 7-Prenyloxycoumarin binds to the DNA of the bergapten binding domain and inhibits transcription by interfering with RNA polymerase I, II, and III. It also inhibits the growth of mcf-7 cells by binding to protein kinase C and blocking its enzymatic activity. The mechanism of action for 7-prenyloxycoumarin is noncompetitive inhibition. This drug has been shown to decrease serum levels of fetal bovine serum (FBS) in tissue culture.
