2-Chlorophenylhydrazine is a synthetically produced compound with biological properties. It has been shown to have antibacterial activity and is efficient in liquid chromatography. 2-Chlorophenylhydrazine also binds to bacterial DNA and inhibits the synthesis of proteins, leading to cell death. This drug has been shown to be effective against tumour cells from some human cancer cell lines, including Stenotrophomonas maltophilia and MCF-7 cells. The drug also binds to pyrazole rings found in bacterial DNA, which may account for its toxicity to bacteria. Impurities in this product are hydrochloric acid and acidic efflux pump inhibitors, which are toxic chemicals that inhibit the function of efflux pump proteins that remove toxic substances from the body.
