4-Bromo-5-phenyl-1,2-oxazole (4BPOX) is an aromatic heterocycle that has not been assigned to a specific role in the body. This chemical is photophysical and has a fluorescence spectrum. 4BPOX can be isomerised by light of energy greater than or equal to 3 eV, leading to its isomeric form. It has a singlet excited state with energies of 10.6 and 11.8 kcal/mol for the two isomers. 4BPOX can be synthesised through a variety of methods, including the use of nitroethane as an oxidant, which leads to high yields.
