Naphthalen-2-yl(phenyl)methanol is an electrophile that can be used in a variety of different chemical reactions. It can be used as a nucleophile and a functional group, and is susceptible to attack by carbanionic, alkene, and cyanoacetic acid catalysts. Naphthalen-2-yl(phenyl)methanol is able to react with an electron-deficient alkene to form the corresponding enolate. This compound also reacts with diethyl ether in the presence of a catalyst to form benzyl alcohol.
