It has been found to be an excellent molecule for the study of electrochemistry and also has many applications in crystallography. 1,4-Bis(bromomethyl)-2,5-dimethylbenzene may be involved in the self-assembly of molecules on the electrode surface. The sulfur atoms of 1,4-bis(bromomethyl)-2,5-dimethylbenzene are able to undergo redox reactions with ferrocyanide and are also permeable to electrolytes. This molecule can be used as a substituent in organic synthesis.
