Urushiol II is a natural compound that is an irritant and allergen. It is found in plants of the genus Toxicodendron, such as poison ivy, oak, and sumac. Urushiol II can cause allergic reactions ranging from mild to severe dermatitis. The skin conditions caused by urushiol II are often called contact dermatitis or toxicodendron dermatitis. Urushiol II has been shown to have physiological activities including anti-inflammatory, anti-microbial, and anti-cancer properties. It has also been shown to be a cross-linking agent for proteins in gel chromatography experiments.
