It is used as an antipsychotic agent and also has a tolerability profile with minimal side effects. The drug binds to the dopamine D2 receptor, resulting in increased uptake of dopamine in the synapse by blocking its reuptake. The compound is soluble in water and lipid solvents, which allows for it to be absorbed easily through the skin or mucous membranes. 1-Methylcycloheptane-1-carboxylic acid is not active against bacteria and fungi.
