This fatty acid also has covalent adducts with plasma proteins such as trypsin and plasmin, which may contribute to its biological activity. 7-Oxoheptanoic acid can be oxidized into reactive oxygen species (ROS) that have been shown to cause oxidative damage to lipids, proteins, and DNA.
