Pterosin C is a novel ent-kaurane diterpenoid isolated from the Indian plant Pterocarpus marsupium. It has been shown to have apoptotic effects in cancer cells, including tumor cell line HCT116 and myeloid leukemia cell K562. The mechanism of action of pterosin C is not fully understood, but it has been shown to inhibit proliferation and induce apoptosis in cancer cells through a number of pathways. It has also been found that pterosin C inhibits the growth of chronic prostatitis bacteria by binding to their ribosomes and inhibiting protein synthesis.
