S-Acetyl-PEG3-azido is a disulfide compound with transfection efficiency. It is synthesized by the reaction of cystamine with 3-azidopropyldisulfide, and can be cross-linked to polymers with a cationic group. S-Acetyl-PEG3-azido has been shown to have high transfection efficiency in vitro and in vivo, and has been used as a carrier for proteins or other drugs. The use of S-Acetyl-PEG3-azido in the synthesis of cationic polymer particles has been shown to increase particle size, which improves their ability to be taken up by cells. S-Acetyl-PEG3 - azido also has the ability to crosslink DNA molecules. This property makes it useful in microscopy applications such as electron microscopy and atomic force microscopy.
