2-Methoxystypandrone is a bioactive phytochemical that can be found in the Chinese herb Etoac extract. It has been shown to have cytotoxic effects and inhibit the growth of malignant cells. 2-Methoxystypandrone prevents the activation of epidermal growth factor (EGF) by binding to its receptor, which leads to decreased proliferation of skin cells. This compound also inhibits the mitochondrial membrane potential and induces reactive oxygen species production, leading to significant cytotoxicity.
