E-3-Chloro-2-phenylprop-2-en-1-amine hydrochloride is a potent and selective agonist for the ion channel TRPM8 (transient receptor potential cation channel subfamily M member 8). It has been shown to activate the channel, leading to depolarization of the cell membrane. E3CPEA has been used as a research tool in pharmacology and protein interactions.
E3CPEA is also an inhibitor of the enzyme acetylcholinesterase. It binds to butyrylcholinesterase at a site that is different from that of acetylcholine, resulting in a competitive inhibition of the enzyme.
