It is a selective, non-competitive antagonist of the metabotropic glutamate receptor type 2 (mGluR2) which has shown to reduce neuronal death and improve motor function in experimental models. CGS 19755 has also been shown to have no significant side-effect profiles in humans and has been tested as a pharmacological agent for the treatment of Parkinson's disease. The major analytical method used to measure the potency of CGS 19755 is intracellular Ca2+ levels.
