Descripción:Lometrexol hydrate is an inhibitor of the enzyme thymidylate synthase, which is involved in DNA synthesis. This drug has been shown to be effective against a variety of tumors, including those that produce high levels of hyaluronan or testosterone. Lometrexol hydrate has also been shown to inhibit the growth of cancer cells by blocking the activity of certain kinases, leading to apoptosis (cell death). In human studies, lometrexol hydrate has been found to be effective in treating various types of cancer, including lung and ovarian cancer. This drug is available as an analog and can be detected in urine samples. Lometrexol hydrate has also been studied in Chinese medicine for its potential use in combination with octreotide for the treatment of certain cancers.
