5-Hydroxypiperidine-3-carboxylic acid (5HPCA) is a natural product that has been shown to have anti-metastatic properties. 5HPCA is a membrane permeable compound that inhibits the formation of pulmonary metastasis by binding to the surface of cells and blocking their ability to bind to each other. This agent also inhibits the growth of cancer cells in culture, which may be due to its ability to prevent cell proliferation by inhibiting intramolecular reactions. 5HPCA can be used as an antimetastatic agent for the treatment of pulmonary metastasis, such as from breast cancer, where it has been shown to reduce tumor size and increase survival rates.
