5-Chloro-4-iodo-2-nitroaniline is a heterocycle with a cyano group. It binds to metabotropic glutamate receptors, which are ion channels that allow for the passage of ions in response to changes in the electrical potential across the membrane. 5-Chloro-4-iodo-2-nitroaniline has been shown to be an agonist of these receptors and can potentiate excitatory postsynaptic potentials at low nanomolar concentrations. This drug also has affinity for noncompetitive metabotropic glutamate receptors, which are found in the dentate gyrus region of the hippocampus and are involved in regulating excitability levels.
