BTK is an enzyme that regulates the activity of other enzymes and proteins involved in B cell signaling. Ibrutinib-MPEA inhibits the binding of Bruton's tyrosine kinase to its ligands, preventing it from functioning as an activator protein. This inhibition prevents activation of downstream signaling pathways that lead to cell proliferation, antibody production, and cytokine secretion. Ibrutinib-MPEA binds to BTK with high affinity and specificity.
