Chroman-4-one oxime is a chemical with antibacterial activity that belongs to the class of oxime derivatives. It is an acidic, organic compound that is structurally related to the oximes and dimethylformamide. Chroman-4-one oxime has been shown to be active against Gram positive bacteria such as Staphylococcus and Streptococcus. The mode of action of chroman-4-one oxime is not clear, but it may work by reacting with amino groups on proteins in order to inhibit protein synthesis. Chroman-4-one oxime can also react with thiols to form sulfoxides or disulfides, which may interfere with essential cellular functions and lead to cell death. This chemical can also react with alkylating agents, such as methyl iodide or ethyl nitrite, in order to form covalent bonds that disrupt DNA synthesis and repair mechanisms.
