Verubecestat acts by blocking the activity of beta-secretase 1 (BACE1), which is an enzyme that is involved in the production of amyloid-beta protein. The drug also inhibits acetylcholine release and neuronal death, thereby reducing neuronal dysfunction. Verubecestat has been shown to be well tolerated with no adverse effects seen in clinical trials.
