Descripción

Cholesteryl behenate is an analytical method that is used for the identification of cholesteryl and cholesteryl esters. Cholesteryl behenate has a low melting point, which allows it to exist in a liquid state at room temperature. This property makes it useful as a model system for studying the phase transition temperature of cholesteryl esters. The melting point of cholesteryl behenate is also lower than that of cholesterol, making it useful for determining the presence of cholesterol in blood serum. The use of this model system has led to a better understanding of the biochemical reactions that occur during cancer diagnosis or chemical reactions involving cholesterol molecules.
Cholesteryl behenate can also act as a monolayer on gold surfaces, allowing it to selectively bind fatty acids with different acyl chain lengths. This property makes it suitable for determining the composition of fatty acids present in biological samples such as tissue or cell cultures.
