The molecule has a cyclic structure and its amide functional group makes it soluble in water. 9-Decenenitrile has been shown to yield high concentrations of viscous solutions when mixed with other solvents such as benzene or hexane. 9-Decenenitrile also has the ability to thicken many organic compounds and can be used as a thickener for various products such as paints, adhesives, lacquers, and coatings.
