Trifluoromethanesulfonic acid is a superacidic acid that has been used in organic synthesis. Trifluoromethanesulfonic acid is hydrophobic and reacts with membranes, making it useful for protein extraction. It also reacts with s. typhimurium, a bacterium that causes food poisoning.
