1,2-Benzenediamine is an organic solvent that is used in the production of dyes and pharmaceuticals. It is a monosubstituted aromatic amine that can be found in the urine of patients with bladder cancer. 1,2-Benzenediamine has been shown to have cytotoxic effects on murine bone cells in a bioassay using 3-ethylbenzthiazoline-6-sulfonic acid (EBT). This compound also inhibits the growth of inflammatory cells such as toll-like receptor 4 (TLR4) and induces the release of proinflammatory cytokines such as tumor necrosis factor alpha (TNFα) from THP1 cells.
