The 6-methyl-2,3-dihydro-1H-indole is a selective 5-HT2C receptor agonist. It has been shown to have oral activity and to bind with high affinity to the 5-HT2B receptors. The binding of this drug at the 5-HT2B receptor mediates its effect on the release of serotonin in the brain. This drug is also an agonist of 5-HT2A receptors and has been shown to mediate increased locomotor activity in animal studies. The pharmacodynamic model for this drug is based on its selective binding to the 5-HT2B receptor, which leads to an increase in serotonin release in the brain.
