CGS 27023A is a monoclonal antibody that binds to the hydrophobic pocket of metalloproteases, leading to inhibition of their activity. This drug has been shown to have anti-inflammatory and matrix metalloproteinase inhibiting effects, which may be useful for the treatment of inflammatory diseases such as arthritis. CGS 27023A also inhibits angiogenesis and endothelial cell proliferation in vitro, which may be useful for the treatment of cancer. CGS 27023A has been shown to inhibit collagen-induced arthritis in mice.
