Nudicaulin B is a natural product that belongs to the class of triterpenoid saponins. It has been found in the roots of Hedyotis nudicaulis, a plant native to Asia. Nudicaulin B has been shown to have anti-inflammatory and anti-tumour properties, as well as antimicrobial activity against Gram-positive bacteria. It inhibits cell proliferation by inhibiting RNA synthesis and protein synthesis. The structure of nudicaulin B was elucidated using NMR spectroscopy and X-ray crystallography and found to be related to guaiacin, which is another triterpenoid saponin previously reported from the same genus of plants.
