RSV-IN-1 is a synthetic compound that inhibits the growth of bacteria and parasites. RSV-IN-1 is a potent antibiotic and antiparasitic agent with a broad spectrum of activity against Gram positive and Gram negative bacteria, as well as protozoa. It has also shown antiviral and antifungal properties in vitro. RSV-IN-1 is used to treat infections caused by Staphylococcus aureus, Escherichia coli, Salmonella typhi, Shigella dysenteriae, Enterobacter cloacae, Klebsiella pneumoniae, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Proteus vulgaris, Legionella pneumophila and Leishmania donovani.
RSV-IN-1 binds to bacterial ribosomes to inhibit protein synthesis. This inhibition causes cell death by blocking the production of proteins vital for cell division.
