4-Amino-5-nitronicotinamide (4AN) is a potent antitumor agent that inhibits the polymerase activity of DNA. It has been shown to inhibit the proliferation of cancer cell lines in vitro and to synergize with temozolomide to produce a potentiation effect. 4AN also inhibits cyclic adenosine monophosphate (cAMP) production by inhibiting cellular potency and cellular viability. This compound was evaluated for its ability to inhibit the growth of cancer cells in vivo but did not show any activity.
