Descripción:Dihydrolanosterol is a steroid that is a precursor of lanosterol, which in turn is an intermediate product of cholesterol synthesis. Dihydrolanosterol has been used to diagnose liver diseases, because it can be synthesized by the human liver and its concentration in the blood increases when there are problems with cholesterol metabolism. The hydroxyl group on the C-3 position of dihydrolanosterol makes it susceptible to enzymatic attack by cholesterol esterase. This reaction mechanism causes a decrease in dihydrolanosterol levels in the blood and urine, which can be used as a measure for diagnosing liver disease.
